What's your personal advocacy?
Food insecurity.
What was the turning point that first got you interested in it?
When NYC became the epicenter of the Covid-19 crisis last Spring, it really illuminated just how many people were food insecure and that were in need of help. Since my entire world revolves around food, I immediately thought, what can I do to help tackle this in a way that is sustainable and that speaks to the specific needs of those who are most vulnerable.
How do you live it out daily?
Everything we do with our restaurant operations, our catered events, we always find a way to tie it back to feeding those in need through The Migrant Kitchen Initiative.
Words to live by
"Early is on time, on time is late and late is unacceptable."
Personal definition of sustainability
To me, sustainability refers to a long lasting solution that you don't have to constantly reinvent. Maybe it evolves or is tweaked along the way, but when I think of sustainable solutions, I think of solutions that can benefit my daughters right now and benefit them when they have children of their own.
Tips for individuals who want to start adopting a more sustainable lifestyle
Start small and go from there. There are so many things that we need to start doing more sustainably, it can feel overwhelming at times. Pick one or two things you can start incorporating easily and build upon that.
